Red Barn Rescue

Overview

Red Barn Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs at risk of euthanasia in public shelters, primarily in North Carolina. The organization operates in Clayton, North Carolina, serving Johnston County and surrounding areas.

Mission

The primary mission of Red Barn Rescue is to rescue adoptable dogs from high-risk situations, such as shelters with high euthanasia rates. They also accept stray dogs and those surrendered by families unable to continue caring for them. The organization strives to prevent these dogs from ending up in shelters, where they might face euthanasia.

Operations

Red Barn Rescue is supported by volunteers and focuses on providing comprehensive care for the dogs in their custody. This includes spaying/neutering when appropriate, administering all necessary vaccinations, and providing veterinary care and treatments such as heartworm prevention and flea/tick control. In some cases, they may also perform dental work or other surgeries as needed.

Adoption Process

Prospective adopters must complete a thorough application process. This includes:

• Application Submission: Potential adopters submit an application listing any pets currently in the home, ensuring they are up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and spayed/neutered.
• Screening and Approval: A vet check is conducted, and if renting, a landlord check may be required. A home visit may also be necessary, especially if a fence is required for the dog.
• Meet and Greet: Approved applicants are invited for a meet and greet with the dog, coordinated with foster families if necessary.
• Final Approval and Adoption: Adoption decisions receive final approval by Red Barn Rescue’s director.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees are structured as follows:

• Puppies under 1 year: $350
• Dogs 1 year or older: $300

Adopters are responsible for future veterinary care and must agree to return the dog to Red Barn Rescue if they cannot continue caring for it.

Community Engagement

Red Barn Rescue collaborates with other animal shelters and organizations to create a network of supporters and volunteers. This collaboration aims to reduce euthanasia rates and promote spay/neuter services to decrease pet overpopulation. Volunteers contribute by fostering dogs, providing recreational activities, and assisting with daily care tasks.

Post-Adoption Support

The organization remains committed to the welfare of dogs beyond the adoption process. If a dog cannot remain in its adopted home for any reason, Red Barn Rescue welcomes it back into their care.
