More police and fire professionals die by suicide than in the line of duty. The mission of Serve & Protect is to work with the public safety professions to address emotional wounds caused by trauma experienced on the job. We serve this population in specific ways locally and nationally: 1. education through on site and video seminars, and subject matter educational materials and videos - free from our website, and free mobile app. We have conducted more than 50 seminars in the middle TN area and as far as Little Rock.2. free nationwide trauma therapy facilitation - locate therapists specializing in trauma, who take their insurance, and understand their job; we interview every therapist. Locally we have several vetted as appropriate. Nationally, we have made more than 5,000 referrals.3. subject matter awareness for trauma issues and suicide through interviews, articles, social media, and public speaking.4. peer counseling for specific segments of public safety with targeted peers - PUBLIC SAFETY PROFESSIONALS; SPOUSES; CHAPLAINS5. locally, onsite Chaplain services for the Brentwood Fire Department, Tennessee State FOP, and FBI Memphis division, Nashville office Serve & Protect was founded July 1, 2011 by former Military Police and Norfolk Police detective Robert Michaels. Michaels serves as Chaplain for FBI Memphis Division, Nashville R.A., and provides backup Chaplain services for Brentwood and Franklin PD. He is the State Chaplain for the Tennessee Fraternal Order of Police. Serve & Protect also provides educational seminars for public safety, with 30 scheduled for departments in the greater Nashville area. Rob holds a B.S. from Columbia International University (Columbia SC) and a M.A. from Wheaton College (Wheaton IL). He is a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and National Center for Crisis Management. He served as Guest Chaplain for the United States House of Representatives September 9, 2015, nominated by Congressman Marsha Blackburn.When calls come for trauma services, especially therapists, we go to work locating one in their area that takes their insurance and understands their job – and specializes in trauma therapy. We personally vet EACH therapist for suitability. Our unique 360 Focus provides a completeness that has become our trademark. If a caller is referred to residential care, we locate a Chaplain for the family. As the first responder approaches release, we locate a trauma therapist to maintain a continuum of care. We can locate other services like AA or intensive outpatient programs in their area.We provide real solutions for real problems for public safety.
