Basketball to Uplift the Youth

Basketball to Uplift the Youth is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to use basketball as a tool to mentor and educate Haitian youth. Registered in Haiti as Baskètbòl pou Ankadre Lajenès (BAL), the organization operates year-round, three times a week on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, in two of Port-au-Prince’s most underserved urban neighborhoods, Cité Soleil and Martissant. The organization has been serving the youth of Martissant since July 2013 and began serving the youth of Cité Soleil in July 2018. The program is free of charge and serves boys and girls ages 8 and up.

Basketball as a tool to mentor and educate Haitian youth Basketball to Uplift the Youth 2021 Haiti AllStar Celebrity Game Established in 1995 theFondasyon Konesans Ak Libte Knowledge and Liberty Foundation is a Haitian foundation supported mainly by the Open Society Foundations OSF a worldwide network of foundations and initiatives created by philanthropist George Soros for the promotion of democratic values. Universally recognized in Haiti by the acronym FOKAL the Foundation offers to local communities throughout the country and to organizations of civil society a large spectrum of activities in the fields of education arts and culture and development. FOKAL has chosen to target populations that are most apt to become agents for change in Haitian society children and youth civil society and grassroots associations and historically marginalized sectors such as peasants and women.
