The Santa Cruz Advocates for the Arts (SCAA) was established in 2007, incorporated 2008, and received 501c(3) status in 2009. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for the people of Santa Cruz County in Arizona, to provide life-long learning in the arts for all people engaged in our programs and to build and manage the Charles Mingus Memorial Park at 10 W. Western Ave. Our major activities are the Charles Mingus Hometown Music Festival, a day of jazz workshops and performances for youth in the county, scholarships for high school students in Santa Cruz county; and management of the Charles Mingus Memorial Park.

HOME CELEBRATION DATE CHARLES MINGUS ABOUT DONATE JAZZ EDUCATION More 2024 FESTIVAL 2023 FESTIVAL 2023 Mingus Jazz Clinic Santa Cruz Advocates for the Arts The Mingus Project hosted a Jazz clinic for County high school and middle school jazz students on November 16 2023. An impressive professional group of jazz musicians served as clinicians for the students led by Dr. Angelo Versace Director of Jazz Studies at The University of Arizona. The students had the opportunity to listen to these outstanding jazz educators then they were given instruction in sectionals and finally performed for their peers and parents to wrap up the day.
