Training | Midwifery Exchange In Ghana

Midwifery Exchange in Ghana aims to decrease the infant and maternal mortality rates in Upper West District in Ghana. This district includes many isolated communities where the midwives function without basic medical equipment or life-saving medications. Our approach is to support continuing education for midwives and birth attendants in newborn resuscitation (Helping Babies Breathe) and obstetric emergency drills for preeclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, breech deliveries, and shoulder dystocia. To ensure sustainability, all participating midwives become trainers in the curriculum. Our organization financially supports individual trainings coordinated by the local midwives. To date we have trained over 80 midwives and birth attendants. Our efforts rely on support by Ministry of Health.
