The Sisters of St Saviour's Priory

The Sisters of St Saviour's Priory is a UK nonprofit organisation registered as a charity (number 230927). It is part of the Society of St Margaret, an Anglican religious order founded by John Mason Neale.

Community and Mission

The priory is a community of sisters who seek to live a religious life through a balance of prayer and ministry. Their focus is on responding to the needs of the marginalized in East London. The community offers a four-fold office and celebrates the Eucharist daily. Their outreach programs include working in local parishes, supporting issues of justice and racial equality, advocating for the gay community, and running a Sunday Stall and Drop in Centre. They also manage the Dunloe Centre for the homeless and alcoholics, provide complementary therapy, and offer spiritual direction and retreats.

Activities and Ministries

The sisters are involved in various ministries and activities aimed at supporting local communities. These include:

  • Social Justice: They support issues related to racial equality and justice.

Leadership

The community is led by The Revd Sister Judith Blackburn SSM, who has been in office since 26 February 2014. Sister Anna Huston SSM serves as an Assistant Leader. Other notable members include The Revd Sister Helen Loder (a priest) and Sister Pamela Radford.

History

The Society of St Margaret, of which St Saviour's Priory is a part, was founded by John Mason Neale. The priory has a long-standing tradition of service and spirituality in East London. Over the years, the community has seen the dedication of various sisters, including Sister Pauline (Mary) Hardcastle, Sr Enid Margaret Jealous, and Sister Moira Jones, who have served for many decades.
