To facilitate the study and exchange of local history and archaeology information in Great Yarmouth and district through meetings and publication of books.GYLH&AS provides information to the public, provides speakers for local meetings, works with local archaeological and other groups in the area. It interacts with local museums & runs a YAC in conjunction with the Time & Tide Museum.

Great Yarmouth LocalHistory Archaeological Society Home About Us Young Archaeologists Meetings Excursions Membership Publications Contact Links Photo Galleries More A society for people interested in exploring researching and preserving the history and archaeology of Great Yarmouth The Great Yarmouth Branch of the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society was founded on 24th January 1888 as a charitable organisation for people to meet discuss and share their interest in heritage history and archaeology. In February 1953 members sought independence and became the Great Yarmouth and District Archaeological Society. In May 2009 in order to reflect members39 changing interests the Society39s name was changed to the Great Yarmouth Local History and Archaeological Society. Today GYLHAS continues to thrive as members meet to enjoy a lively talks programme slide shows regular excursions research and of course to share their interest in heritage history and archaeology.
