Petts Wood Playgroup (For Children with Special Needs)
Overview
Petts Wood Playgroup (For Children with Special Needs) is a UK nonprofit organization dedicated to providing pre-school education and care services for children with special needs. Established in 1968, the playgroup caters to children from birth to five years old, addressing a wide range of needs including physical disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral or social challenges.
Services and Facilities
- Educational Environment: The playgroup offers a large classroom, a soft play room, and a sensory room to provide a comprehensive environment tailored to the needs of its attendees.
- Specialist Support: Support is provided by educational psychologists and teachers from the Sensory Impairment Service, courtesy of the Bromley Department of Education.
- Transportation: The playgroup operates a minibus service to pick up and drop off children from their homes in local areas, enhancing accessibility for families in the Bromley, Kent region.
Operations and Volunteering
The playgroup operates on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Volunteers play a crucial role, typically starting their day at 9:15 am to prepare for the arrival of children and staying until the end of the session at approximately 12:45 pm.
Funding and Donations
While attendance is free, the playgroup relies on contributions, donations, and support from various organizations. Notably, the playgroup has received donations for enhancing its facilities and services, such as providing interactive tactile equipment like sandpits and educational friezes, which are particularly beneficial for children with sensory issues or those on the autistic spectrum.

Petts Wood Playgroup for Children with Special Needs focuses on providing a supportive and inclusive environment to help children with diverse special needs develop and thrive. The organization's dedication to individualized care and education underscores its commitment to improving the lives of its young participants and their families.

Petts Wood Playgroup for Children with Special Needs Registered Charity No. 803792 PWPG is run by a leader and two deputies who are supported by a fantastic and dedicated team of volunteers. These volunteers bring with them a great range of experiences from being parents of children with additional needs to former teachers nurses and grandparents but they all share one common goal they all want to help support and care for the children. We operate in term time only and care for 15 children with varying additional needs each day.
