DREAM MAKERS

DREAM MAKERS is a UK-registered charity, known as a national children's charity. It was established to relieve individuals, particularly but not exclusively children, their families, and carers, who are suffering from severe physical, mental, or life-threatening illnesses.

Mission and Activities

The charity focuses on fulfilling dreams for children, ranging from small wishes like TVs and bedroom makeovers to more significant experiences such as holidays to destinations like Disney World in Florida, Lapland, and sunnier climates. In recent years, due to financial considerations, DREAM MAKERS has concentrated on providing memorable holidays in the UK. To achieve this, the charity has purchased mobile homes in Devon, which enable them to accommodate children and their families from across the UK for most of the year.

History

DREAM MAKERS began its fundraising efforts in 1987, inspired by a campaign for a child named Lucy. The charity was formally registered with the Charity Commission in 1995. Since then, it has granted dreams to thousands of children and their families.

Operational Model

The mobile homes in Devon, costing around £70,000 each with an annual upkeep of £15,000, are central to their current operations. The charity aims to continue purchasing these homes to offer more holidays to those in need. Their goal is never to have to refuse a child's dream, regardless of the severity of their illness.

Impact and Support

DREAM MAKERS relies on the generosity and support of donors to maintain its activities. The charity's efforts are designed to allow children to experience life as children should, free from the burdens of severe illness.
