The Society has about 200 members from the UK, Eire, and overseas. It publishes an annual scholarly journal, Nomina, and an occasional newsletter for members. It organises regular conferences, open to non-members. During 2010 it held a 3-day conference Carmarthern which was sponsored by Bwrdd Yr Laith, the Welsh Language Board.

Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland Registered Charity Number 1077455 The Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland formed in 1991 exists to promote the study of placenames personal names and other names. It has members within and beyond Britain and Ireland some of them academics students or staff in relevant fields but most from other walks of life. We share a fascination with names and all they can reveal about the diverse peoples languages histories and landscapes of Britain and Ireland. We work closely with colleagues in the English Scottish Welsh and Ulster PlaceName Societies and seek to encourage dialogue and comparative work as well as providing a major platform for research into the personal names of Britain and Ireland.
