Hallam Sinfonia

The Hallam Sinfonia is a nonprofit amateur orchestra based in Sheffield, England. Established in 1973 originally as a chamber orchestra, it has since expanded into a full-size symphony orchestra. Over the years, the ensemble has developed a diverse repertoire spanning from Baroque compositions to works of the 21st century, including large-scale Romantic pieces, mainstream classical music, film scores, and children's concerts.

History and Development

Formed in 1973, the Hallam Sinfonia began as a small chamber group but grew steadily in size and scope to become a full symphony orchestra. This evolution allowed the orchestra to explore a broader range of musical works and undertake more ambitious projects. In 2007, Natalia Luis-Bassa was appointed musical director, bringing new artistic direction to the ensemble.

The Hallam Sinfonia typically organizes and performs four orchestral concerts annually for the general public in Sheffield. Its programs reflect a wide stylistic and historical range, including collaborations with local groups such as the Hallam Choral Society, with whom it frequently performs.
