A significant cause of this is the chronic shortage of adequately trained biomedical engineers in many of these countries. How we do it The Amalthea Trust is a nonprofit organisation that helps to provide the support practical experience and knowhow necessary for professionals in low resource settings to selfmaintain their own countries medical devices thus helping to improve healthcare delivery for millions of people. What we do on the ground We work alongside universities and technical colleges in Africa placing experienced engineers from the UK NHS who volunteer through us for two weeks at a time with these colleges giving the recipients practical handson training on specific medical devices.
