Lake District Holocaust Project

The continuing aim is to educate people in matters of local history through the use and involvement of oral history, archives, documents and exhibitions at the heart of the community. One of the ultimate objectives is to establish a permanent and fitting commemoration in the Lake District of the link between the child Holocaust Survivors and the local area that welcomed them in 1945.

New WebsiteComing Soon The Lake District Holocaust Project In 1945 the people of Lakeland welcomed three hundred child Holocaust Survivors into their community. The children were to spend a period of recuperation in the Lakes before setting out on new lives. Lake District Holocaust Project holds a comprehensive archive of artefacts documents photographs and oral history testimonies that tell both the story of the arrival of the Jewish children and of the community who welcomed them. Arriving in the Lake District was described by the children as like being in Paradise.
