Friends of Chernobyl's Children (West Leicestershire)
The charity is dedicated to providing 4-week respite breaks in Leicestershire for children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Our aim is to bring each child to the UK for 5 consecutive years in the belief that this brings cumulative health benefits and enables them to live fuller and healthier lives. Each child is placed with a volunteer host family during their stay in the UK.

Remembering Chernobyl April 26th 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the worlds worst nuclear accident when reactor four at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded releasing 190 tonnes of radioactive uranium and graphite into the atmosphere. Life in Belarus For the children that come on our programme life in Belarus is tough. The area where they live is around 180 miles north from Chernobyl and was one of the areas most affected by the disaster in 1986. Friends of Chernobyls Children West Leics is dedicated to providing recuperative breaks in Leicestershire for children from Belarus whose lives are still affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
