The Botanic Gardens Community Association (BGCA) is a nonprofit organisation in the United Kingdom, registered as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) since 2015. It was established in December 2011 to support the Botanic Gardens in Churchtown, Southport, which faced challenges due to funding cuts and staff reductions.

Activities and Objectives

The association's primary goal is to assist in maintaining and enhancing the Botanic Gardens, focusing on preserving its flora displays and other attractions that were at risk of reduction or closure. BGCA engages in various activities, including physical garden maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and organizational tasks such as fundraising events. These efforts are guided by input from the community, including a consultation questionnaire completed by over 500 park users in 2012.

Governance and Membership

The BGCA operates with a system of Trustees and Committees, where members are elected by subscription-paying members. The association has a thriving membership of over 70 volunteers who contribute through hands-on work, organisational tasks, or advisory roles.

Community Impact

BGCA provides services that benefit a wide range of beneficiaries, including children and young people, elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and the general public. Its activities align with several charitable objectives, such as education, health, arts, culture, heritage, environment, and recreation.
