Peninsula Mountain and Cave Rescue Association
The Peninsula Mountain and Cave Rescue Association (PenMaCRA) is a regional body that coordinates mountain rescue efforts across the South West Peninsula of England. This area includes Cornwall, Devon, and parts of Somerset. PenMaCRA is affiliated with Mountain Rescue England and Wales, functioning as a key component in the national framework for search and rescue operations in the region.
Structure and Membership
PenMaCRA comprises nine member teams that provide specialized search and rescue capabilities. These teams are:

- Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team Plymouth
- Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team Tavistock
- Devon Cave Rescue
- East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team
- Exmoor Search & Rescue Team
- North Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team
- West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team
Each member team is an independent charity, contributing to the broader mission of PenMaCRA.
Functionality and Services
The primary role of PenMaCRA is to facilitate cooperation and joint training among its member teams. This collaboration enhances their response capabilities when assisting individuals who are lost, injured, or at risk, particularly in remote areas. PenMaCRA also represents its member teams at national meetings of Mountain Rescue England and Wales, ensuring regional perspectives are integrated into national strategies.
Registration and Governance
PenMaCRA is registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The organisation works under the name PenMaCRA (also known as PENMACRA) and is registered under charity number 1197211.
Role in the Community
By providing critical search and rescue services, PenMaCRA plays a vital role in supporting public safety in the South West Peninsula. The organisation relies on the volunteer efforts of its member teams to respond to emergencies on behalf of the police and ambulance services.

PenMaCRA Peninsula Mountain and Cave Rescue Association Main menu Home Peninsula Mountain and Cave Rescue Association is the regional body of Mountain Rescue England Wales for all the voluntary Search and Rescue Teams of the South West Peninsula covering Cornwall Devon and part of Somerset. These teams provide manpower with specialised skills to respond to calls from the Police and Ambulance services when assistance is required by members of the public who are lost injured or at risk particularly those in remote places. PenMaCRA was established to develop further the cooperation and joint training of the member teams who provide these specialist search and rescue capabilities and also to represent them at national meetings of Mountain Rescue England Wales.
