Welcome to the South West Maritime History Society Based in South West England we encourage interest in all aspects of maritime history and promote research in these fields leading where possible to the publication of the results of such studies. Introduction to the SWMHS Aims Objectives South West Maritime History Society was founded in 1984 by a number of enthusiastic maritime historians including Alston Kennerley and David Clement. Its aims are to encourage interest in all aspects of our maritime heritage and to promote research in these fields leading where possible to the publication of the result of such studies. Benefits of Membership Members benefit from opportunities to further their interest in maritime history through our newsletter Soundings our Journal Maritime South West by visits to historic vessels and sites of interest in the South West and by presentations and talks by experts in their field.
