BC Mental Health Foundation Better mental health for all British Columbians Every year more than one in five British Columbians will experience a mental health or substance use challenge. Mental health and substance use issues can affect anyone regardless of their age social status or income. People with complex mental health and substance use challenges are more likely to experience other social inequalities including homelessness poverty and interactions with the legal system. All of these challenges lead to poorer health incomes.
