Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum Inc.

The Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum Inc. is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing and honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to lacrosse in Manitoba. The organization was established to commemorate the achievements of players, builders, player/builders, and teams that have distinguished themselves in the sport.

History

The idea for the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame was conceived in early 2010 by Len Morrow, Harry Nightingale, and Butch Wozniak. These founders drew inspiration from the model of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and received guidance from Rick Brownlee, then Executive Director of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Inc. The first meeting of the Board of Directors took place on April 15, 2010, at Sport Manitoba, with key appointments including Harry Nightingale as President and Butch Wozniak as First Vice President[2][3].

The organization became officially incorporated on January 5, 2011, and was registered as a charity on March 17, 2011. This allowed it to issue receipts for income tax purposes, further solidifying its non-profit status[3].

Mission and Activities

The mission of the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum Inc. is to honor those who have brought distinction to lacrosse in Manitoba. This includes not only inducting notable figures into the Hall of Fame but also maintaining and updating a virtual museum. The organization seeks to continually evaluate and recognize former players, builders, and contributors to the sport in Manitoba[4].

Inductions and Recognition

Inductees are selected through a nomination process using the MB Lacrosse Hall of Fame Nomination Form and Testimonials Form. Over the years, various individuals and teams have been recognized for their contributions. For example, in 2025, notable inductees included the 1976 Presidents Cup Team and individuals such as Mike Tymchyshyn and Doug McKeever[1]. In 2021, the organization held a special induction ceremony to honor individuals from the 1920s to the 1940s due to the postponements caused by the COVID-19 pandemic[5].

Structure and Governance

The organization is governed by a Board of Directors, which includes positions such as President, Vice Presidents, Treasurer, and Legal/Historical advisors. Key figures have played significant roles in its establishment and growth[2][3].

Legacy

The Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum Inc. serves as a testament to Manitoba's rich lacrosse history, ensuring that the achievements of its lacrosse community are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
