History

The parish was first organized to serve the Ukrainians in Transcona, led by Bishop Nykyta Budka, with Fr. Joseph Bala playing a key role in its early formation. Initially, liturgies were celebrated at the Assumption Church on Leola Street as a temporary arrangement. In 1916, the Parish Committee acquired land on Wabash Street at Harold Avenue, where St. Nicholas Church was built. However, to avoid confusion with another existing St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church on McGregor Street in Winnipeg, the church was rededicated to St. Michael the Archangel in 1917.

St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Parish is actively involved in community events, including hosting a regular Wednesday Night Bingo event. This event is open to everyone and provides a social gathering space, with canteen snacks available.
