Parkland Community Living and Supports Society, commonly known as Parkland CLASS, is a not-for-profit organization and a registered Canadian charity. It is dedicated to providing a wide range of disability supports in Central Alberta, focusing on enhancing the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

The organization is governed by a community-elected Board of seven members, three of whom have personal connections to disabilities within their families, while the others bring strong business backgrounds. This mix ensures that the organization's strategic planning and service development are well-rounded and effective.

History and Impact

Parkland CLASS has been providing disability housing and special needs support for almost 60 years, benefiting families and individuals in Central Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

International Initiatives

Since May 2000, Parkland CLASS has engaged in international disability initiatives, aiming to advance disability rights globally. The organization consults on and transfers Canadian practices, systems, and values to support the development of inclusive community services in developing nations. Notably, Parkland CLASS participated in the Montreal Declaration, which promoted universal standards for supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities[4].

Partnerships

Parkland CLASS emphasizes building strong partnerships, both locally and internationally, to enhance their impact. They have collaborated with aboriginal groups, tribal councils, and disability organizations. Internationally, they work with regional and national groups, such as the Asociación AMAR in Argentina, to develop advocacy and support networks for individuals with disabilities[5].
