Sundre and District Nutrition for Learning Society

The Sundre and District Nutrition for Learning Society is a registered Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the educational and physical well-being of students in the Sundre community through nutrition programs. Established over 20 years ago, the society provides free snack and breakfast programs aimed at addressing nutritional deficiencies among school children, thereby promoting better learning outcomes and fostering social interaction.

Mission and Vision

The society's mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle within the community by offering healthy food choices, nutritional education, and opportunities for positive interaction among youth, parents, and community members. Its vision is to provide children with the fundamental nutritional building blocks necessary to sustain their quality of life both presently and in the future.

Programs and Services

Sundre and District Nutrition for Learning Society operates primarily within River Valley School and Sundre High School, serving over 600 elementary students with healthy snacks and milk and more than 350 high school students with free breakfasts. The program focuses on:

• Providing nutritious morning snacks three days a week to elementary students
• Offering a hot breakfast five days a week to high school students
• Supplying bagged lunches for students who forget their meals
• Enhancing nutritional education and awareness within the community
• Encouraging social interaction and volunteerism through community engagement

The society's programs are designed to give children a nutritious start to their day, which supports their academic performance and overall well-being.

Organizational Structure

The society is governed by a board and supported by a team including an executive director, coordinators, and numerous volunteers. Key personnel include Lana Saunders as Executive Director, Angela Sandberg as President, and Ann-Marie Fuchko as Coordinator.
