History

CFUW Edmonton Academic traces its roots back to the original Edmonton club, which was among the six founding members of the Canadian Federation of University Women at a pivotal organizational meeting held in Winnipeg in August 1919. The founding clubs included Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, and Victoria, with additional representation from McGill Alumnae. The federation was established to unite university women across Canada with a shared mission to promote education in all its phases and improve social, political, and economic conditions for women[3][5].

The Edmonton club itself was founded earlier, in 1909, establishing one of the longest-standing communities of university-educated women in the region.
