Support and Hope for Individuals and Families Today, also known as S.H.I.F.T, is a Canadian nonprofit organization registered under the business number 784483737RR0001. Established in 2017, it serves the South Simcoe community by providing support and resources to individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness and food insecurity.

Mission and Vision

The organization’s mission is to partner with individuals and families to create a meaningful shift in their life circumstances by offering safe, respectful, and welcoming emergency accommodation, meals, and other support services. Its vision is to foster a united community where every person has access to stable housing, support, and opportunity.

Programs and Services

S.H.I.F.T operates various programs focused on housing and support:

• Emergency Overnight Shelter (EOS) Program: This program offers overnight shelter during winter months for individuals and couples experiencing homelessness, supporting adults and youth (16+) of all genders, including transgender people. It operates under harm reduction principles and aims to bridge the gap between homelessness and stable housing. The shelter accommodates up to 8 guests per night, seven days a week, fostering community engagement and a sense of belonging.

• Outreach Program: Focused on homelessness prevention, this program serves low-income individuals, couples, and families across South Simcoe. It provides urgently needed supplies, connects people to services and supports, and offers emergency assistance to those at risk of or experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, whether housed or unhoused.

Impact

Since its inception, S.H.I.F.T has served over 800 individuals through its housing programs and provided more than 10,000 meals across South Simcoe. The organization has facilitated over 5,000 harm reduction interactions, supplying life-saving materials and support. This impact is sustained by over 250 volunteers annually serving in various roles within the organization.
