Calgary Safety Council

The Council was formed over 50 years ago, initially resulting from vehicle safety checks. It operates independently, often being mistaken for a department of the City of Calgary. Its mission is to ensure public safety through educational programs and community engagement.

Programs and Initiatives

One of its notable programs is the pedestrian safety program, which has educated over 100,000 students. The Council also operates Safety City, a longstanding initiative that offers safety awareness programs for children. Despite recent developments regarding the Water Treatment Plant Expansion Program, Safety City continues to operate at its current site, with plans for relocation by the 2026 season.

Collaborations and Partnerships

The Calgary Safety Council maintains close liaisons with the Canada Safety Council and other safety organizations across Canada and the U.S. It collaborates with various government departments, including federal and provincial levels, and local entities such as the Calgary Police, Fire Department, Transportation, Parks and Recreation, Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Catholic School Board, private schools, and more.
