Mission and Activities

The White Wind Zen Community offers a comprehensive format of practice, including a Long-Distance Training Program. It provides its students with an ongoing environment for training and study of the Dharma, which includes:

  • Regular Daily Zen Practice Schedules: Morning and evening sittings are integral to the community's daily activities.
  • Monthly Practice Events: The organization hosts regular events aimed at fostering mindfulness and spiritual growth.
  • Intensive Training Periods: Four times a year, the community conducts seven-day intensive training sessions, known as O-sesshin, and monthly sesshins.
  • Dharma Assemblies: These gatherings provide opportunities for members to engage in deeper discussions and reflections on Buddhist teachings.
  • Residential Training and Retreats: Members can participate in periods of residential training and schedule personal retreats to deepen their practice.

Leadership

The community was founded by Ven. Anzan Hoshin roshi, and his Dharma heir, Ven. Jinmyo Renge sensei, continues to present Dharma talks. The late Ven. Shikai Zuiko o-sensei also played a significant role in the community as a Dharma successor until her passing in 2020.

Branch Centers

The White Wind Zen Community operates through its main center, the Zen Centre of Ottawa, as well as branch centers in Wolfville, Nova Scotia; Guelph, Ontario; and Harrow, England. This network allows the community to reach a broader audience and support Zen practice globally.
