Overview

East Brunswick Kindergarten and Childcare Centre (EBKCC) offers high-quality early learning programs that focus on enhancing children's self-esteem, self-confidence, and caring attitudes toward others. The centre encourages children's curiosity, experimentation, and exploration of creativity and potential. It values children's play as a crucial part of the learning process and acknowledges that each child develops and learns at an individual pace. Emphasis is placed on the learning journey and creative process, supported by appropriate space, time, materials, and adult guidance[3].

The centre fosters a safe and inclusive environment, welcoming children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. It promotes opportunities for all children to participate, express their views, and ensure their safety, health, and wellbeing. EBKCC recognises that children belong first and foremost to their family and strives to support children's progress by scaffolding play and evaluating their learning journeys[3].

Educational Philosophy and Environment

EBKCC recognises the significance of the physical environment, both indoors and outdoors, in supporting children's learning. The centre takes pride in creating aesthetically pleasing spaces enriched with extensive use of recycled, natural, and resource materials. Sustainable practices, waste minimisation, and recycling are actively encouraged as part of the centre's environmental ethos. The outdoor space is particularly valued and promoted as an important learning environment for children[3].

Reconciliation and Community Engagement

In line with Australia's commitment to Reconciliation, EBKCC acknowledges the traditional owners of the land, the Wurundjeri people, on which the centre operates. It commits to caring for the land and building respectful relationships by sharing stories of life, land, and culture. The centre is actively developing a Reconciliation Action Plan to integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into its programs and raise awareness of Indigenous values and concepts[1].

Service Details and Quality Ratings

East Brunswick Kindergarten operates as a centre-based care service with approval for 75 children. It provides long day care and kindergarten programs during school terms, with specific hours dedicated to sessions in line with the school calendar. The centre does not offer outside school hours care or vacation care services[4].

The centre has achieved an overall rating of "Exceeding National Quality Standard (NQS)" across all quality areas, reflecting its commitment to high standards in early childhood education and care. These quality areas include educational program and practice, children’s health and safety, physical environment, staffing arrangements, relationships with children, collaborative partnerships with families and communities, and governance and leadership[4].
