Our Vision is to form empowered women of character who change the world for good. Presbyterian Ladies College (PLC) is one of Australia s largest girls schools with over 275 teaching and nonteaching staff, and a rich culturally diverse student population of over 1,600 from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 12. Although proud of its rich heritage, having been established in 1875, PLC very much reflects modern and forwardlooking Melbourne. It provides a warm, welcoming, and cohesive community within which to educate today s girls. As detailed in the College s Constitution, the Principal Purpose for which the College is established is to provide for the students of the College an education of a humane, scientific and general nature, consistent with the teachings of Christianity, including religious instruction and education in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments interpreted not inconsistently with the Westminster Confession of Faith, the 39 Articles of Religion of the Church of England and the Basis of Union of The Uniting Church in Australia in 1971. The College pursues its Principal Purpose by operating a School and Early Learning Centre that: (i) encourages each student to achieve the highest standard of which she is capable in all her activities and the full development of the personality and sense of responsibility of each student and respect for others and capacity to work with them so as to promote the development of Christian ideals of citizenship, personal character and a spirit of reverence in the entire life and work of the College; (ii) provides regular opportunities for religious observance and worship for the students consistent in form with the usages of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria from time to time; and (iii) provides such board, lodgings and attendance as the Council deems fit. PLC also operates an Early Learning Centre.

The Presbyterian Ladies' College, Melbourne (PLC Melbourne) is a renowned independent educational institution for girls in Australia. Founded in 1875 at East Melbourne, it was one of the first schools of its kind in the country, providing a non-selective enrollment policy.

History

Initially located in East Melbourne, PLC Melbourne faced overcrowding issues by the late 1930s. In response, the school relocated to Burwood in a phased manner. The Junior School moved to the new campus at "Hethersett" in 1939, followed by the Senior School and boarding facilities in 1958. This relocation marked a significant expansion in facilities and educational opportunities offered by the College.

School Structure

PLC Melbourne is structured into three distinct educational zones:

  • Early Learning Centre (ELC): This section caters to children from six months to five years old, employing the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education.
  • Junior School: Educates girls from Prep to Grade 6.
  • Senior School: Covers Years 7 to 12, providing comprehensive secondary education.

Boarding Facilities

The College includes a Boarding House that accommodates 100 girls. Boarders have access to extensive facilities, including recreational and sporting areas, computers for academic purposes, and other resources to support their studies.

In 2008, significant upgrades were made to the Boarding House, adding sixty individual bedrooms for senior girls, new bathroom facilities, music rooms, a laundry, and a computer lab.
