UFPA | Unity Of First People Of Australia

The offgrid solar power project in the Pilbara has been finalised, providing potable water and sustainable power systems for the health and wellbeing of its community members. UFPA successfully secured a Lotterywest grant providing funding over a twoyear period to develop an auspicing service. UFPA will auspice funds (acting as a connector ) between funders and Aboriginal Corporations without DGR1 status who would otherwise not be able to access philanthropic funding. This project will assist financial selfsufficiency, enabling more Aboriginal controlled organisations to obtain funding to support thriving inclusive Aboriginal communities. UFPA also continues to provide bookkeeping and administrative support to the Noongar Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, as well as many smaller Aboriginal Organisations who require our services from time to time.

Unity Of First People Of Australia Limited

Unity Of First People Of Australia Limited (UFPA) is a longstanding Australian nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Established over 27 years ago, the organisation is one of the oldest First Nations-led charities in Australia.

Mission and Activities

UFPA focuses on empowering Indigenous communities by promoting wellbeing and self-sufficiency. The organisation has distributed substantial funding to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, enabling them to develop and manage their own projects and initiatives tailored to the needs of their communities. To date, UFPA has allocated approximately AUD 297,000 across 20 Indigenous-controlled organisations to bolster health, social, and cultural programs that contribute to community strength and resilience.

Impact on Indigenous Health and Wellbeing

A key aspect of UFPA’s work involves providing an evidence base to inform best practices and policies in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. By supporting community organisations financially and strategically, UFPA helps close the gap in health and social outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Governance and Funding

As a registered charity under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), Unity Of First People Of Australia Limited is committed to transparency and ethical management. The organisation prioritises enabling Indigenous-led governance and financial self-sufficiency, fostering an environment where Aboriginal controlled organisations can thrive and sustain their programs independently.

Legacy and Significance

With more than two decades of continuous service, UFPA holds a respected place within Australia's Indigenous sector. Its efforts contribute to the broader movement of First Nations self-determination and community empowerment through culturally appropriate support and advocacy.
