AFC and Royal Australian Air Force Association ACT Division Incorporated
The AFC and Royal Australian Air Force Association ACT Division Incorporated (ABN: 32480137432RR0001) is a non-profit organization supporting current and former Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) personnel, their families, and aviation communities in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). It operates under the broader federation of state-based divisions affiliated with the Air Force Association (AFA), which maintains a national structure to coordinate welfare, commemorative events, and social initiatives across Australia[1][2][4].

History and Purpose

The organization traces its lineage to the traditions of the Australian Flying Corps (AFC), the precursor to the RAAF established in 1912. It focuses on preserving the legacy of fallen service members, fostering camaraderie through social activities, and advocating for veterans' welfare[1][3]. Its activities include commemorative ceremonies, aviation interest programs, and support for members experiencing hardship[1][3].

Structure

As a member of the AFA federation, the ACT Division collaborates with state counterparts to address national and local priorities. It operates under a governance model aligned with the AFA’s National Board, ensuring compliance with charitable regulations while maintaining autonomy in community-led initiatives[2][4].

Activities

Key functions include:

  • Welfare support: Financial aid, advocacy, and crisis assistance for veterans and their families[3].
  • Commemoration: Organizing events to honor RAAF history and fallen personnel, including Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services[1][3].
  • Aviation engagement: Promoting public interest in aviation through educational initiatives and partnerships[1].

The organization is classified as a small charity by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), reflecting its localized scope and volunteer-driven operations[3].
