The Wentworth Group s activities in the 2022 reporting period fell under two major categories: Water Reform and Landscape Conservation. Donations to the public fund were primarily directed at supporting employment of staff in the following areas: Water reform The Wentworth Group has promoted the sustainable management of Australia s water resources. Its focus in recent years has been in the MurrayDarling Basin where the Australian government has committed to a major reform package, which included the MurrayDarling Basin Plan and a $13 billion investment to restore the health of the Basin. The Wentworth Group has invested significant resources into scientifically researching and developing the technical and institutional changes needed to ensure these reforms deliver long term outcomes for the people and ecosystems in the Basin. Landscape conservation One of Australia s most significant public policy challenges is to overcome the systemic degradation of our landscapes and reverse the ongoing loss of biodiversity, whilst at the same time managing new pressures arising from a growing population and increasing global demand for more food, fibre, energy and minerals. The Wentworth Group is advising on the institutional settings and economic signals that would stop further damage and encourage restoration so that Australia can continue to prosper and grow its economy, without degrading its environment. We are preparing on extensive assessment which shows the practical actions needed to repair nature, the benefits of doing so and investment required, as evidence to underpin a nationwide restoration effort.
