Junction Arts Festival Inc. produces an annual arts and cultural festival in the heart of Launceston, taking place in early September, encouraging the city to spring into life after winter. The festival is about engaging with the community in which we live, encouraging Launceston residents to come out and interact, even participate in a diverse artsbased cultural program over five days. Junction works to achieve its broader aims, such as contributing to the cultural, social and economic wealth of the Northern region of the state, fostering an exciting and innovative program to not only attract but grow intrastate and interstate visitors, encouraging them to stay longer in the North. The festival's success comes from not only putting local talent in the spotlight but also encouraging audience engagement designed to breakdown the barriers and lessen any 'fear factor'. The festival has also taken serious steps to support the growth of the local arts and cultural scene by developing the skill base of its staff and teams of volunteers and partnering with local organisations to promote the cultural diversity of Launceston.
