Queensland Para Sailing Academy Inc.
The Queensland Para Sailing Academy Inc. (QPSA) is an Australian nonprofit organisation dedicated to providing high-performance competitive sailing opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Established to address limited access to adaptive sailing programs in Queensland, it focuses on coaching, training, and competitive pathways using specialised equipment.

Mission and Activities
QPSA aims to develop sailors from novice to national-level competitors through structured programs. Its partnerships with Southport Yacht Club (SYC) and Sailability Gold Coast enable access to training facilities and smaller dinghies for skill verification[1]. Participants progress to elite coaching using SKUD 18-class yachts, former Paralympic-class boats designed for adaptive sailing[1][3]. The academy emphasises safety and inclusivity, offering programs tailored to high-level physical disabilities[3].

Competitive Reach
During recent seasons, QPSA deployed six SKUD 18 yachts across 78 club races, with all vessels consistently participating in events[2][5]. This model ensures broad participation, allowing sailors to compete against nondisabled athletes in integrated racing formats[2].

Organisational Structure
QPSA operates as a small charity with tax-deductible status[4]. Its framework relies on collaboration between volunteers, professional coaches, and disability sailing advocates, including founders Ross Manning and Matt Speakman, both competitive para sailors[1]. The academy’s training protocols align with national standards, preparing athletes for potential inclusion in Australian Paralympic sailing initiatives[1].
