Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Archdiocese of Sydney
The Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Archdiocese of Sydney (ACM) is a nonprofit organisation operating under the auspices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. Established to foster reconciliation and mutual understanding, its primary focus is the pastoral care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, supporting their spiritual, cultural, and social needs within the Catholic faith[1][2][5].

Activities and purpose

The ACM serves as a bridge between Indigenous communities and the Catholic Church, advocating for Aboriginal concerns and providing services such as counselling, education assistance, and community outreach[1][4]. Its operations include two centers in Alexandria and Phillip Bay (near La Perouse), which offer culturally safe environments and facilitate connections between Aboriginal peoples and the broader Archdiocesan community[5]. Key aims include promoting reconciliation through shared understanding, enhancing well-being, and strengthening spiritual engagement[5].

Restructure and advocacy

In response to evolving community needs, the Archdiocese of Sydney restructured the ACM to ensure long-term sustainability and improved resource allocation. This process involved consultations with Aboriginal Catholic personnel across multiple dioceses[1]. The ministry also collaborates with Archdiocesan initiatives, such as the Anti-Slavery Taskforce, to address systemic issues affecting marginalized communities[3].

Funding

The ACM is funded primarily through the Archdiocesan Charitable Works Fund, which supports its outreach programs and operational activities[5]. It maintains partnerships with internal and external agencies to amplify its advocacy and service delivery[5].
