The Trustee for Far West Coast Community Trust is an Australian nonprofit organisation established to support members of the Far West Coast Aboriginal community. Registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), it focuses on providing resources to improve living standards and economic opportunities for Indigenous Australians in the region[2][3][4].

Overview

The trust operates under a charitable model, delivering programs across healthcare, education, and funeral support. Funds are derived from mining agreements, including a partnership with Iluka Resources, which contributes to the Far West Coast Aboriginal Community Charitable Trust (FWCACCT). These funds are managed by Far West Coast Investments (FWCI), which oversees financial viability and business development initiatives[1][4].

Governance and Operations

A liaison committee consisting of FWCI directors collaborates with Iluka to advance employment, education, and business targets. FWCI evaluates potential ventures to mitigate financial risks, often establishing separate companies to limit liability[1]. The trust employs 16 full-time staff and maintains a localized operational approach, with a Trust Coordinator based in Ceduna, South Australia, to facilitate direct member assistance[1][4].

Programs and Services

Key initiatives include:

  • Medical Support: Improving healthcare access for chronically ill and financially disadvantaged individuals[4].
  • Funeral Assistance: Providing financial aid for funeral expenses to Aboriginal families[4].
  • IYLP Scholarships: Offering educational grants for youth aged 6–25 to promote academic advancement[4].
  • Member Assistance: Distributing annual funds to address housing, utilities, and emergency needs through structured application processes[1][4].

Community Impact

The trust prioritizes equitable living standards for Far West Coast Aboriginal peoples, particularly targeting vulnerable groups such as the financially disadvantaged, people with disabilities, and Indigenous families. Its geographic focus centers on Ceduna, South Australia, with no overseas operations reported[4].

Applications Membership Latest News Far West Coast Aboriginal Corporation FWCAC manages the Far West Coast land recognised in law having been Determined as belonging to the Far West Coast Aboriginal Peoples in the Federal Court Determination for Native Title on the 5th of December 2013. The boundary recognises the claim area of the 6 cultural groups who are represented by the FWCAC and their subsequent cultural authority as a whole and is considered the Far West Coast region. A decision made at Spear Creek assisted the 6 cultural groups to form a larger unified claim in order to achieve native title and the legacy of this decision making is still observed in achieving equal representation from all 6 cultural groups. 6 Distinct Cultural Groups Latest News OPS2 Ranger Role Description Newly Elected Investment Directors Facebook News Far West Coast Aboriginal Corporation 17 hours ago Photo Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linked InShare by Email 17 hours ago Photo Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linked InShare by Email Contact us Email administrationfwcac.
