Girls need sanitary pads when they menstruate. In Kibera most families can't afford pads so girls miss days of school each month, fall behind in their work and eventually leave. Our aim is to enable girls in Kibera slum to complete their education. 65% of high school girls drop out of school in Kibera Slum, Kenya. One of the main reasons is they cannot afford sanitary pads. We set up microfactories that enable local women to manufacture sanitary pads for girls who can then continue to attend school and complete their high school education. Other local women visit the schools on a parttime basis to mentor the girls re how to use the sanitary pads, personal hygiene and why it s important to stay in school. We presently distribute sanitary pads to 50 schools for free.
