The Queensland and Northern New South Wales Lions Medical Research Foundation (LMRF) is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to funding life-changing medical research, primarily focusing on supporting early career biomedical scientists.

LMRF was established in 1963 and has since been a leading entity in promoting and funding internationally recognised medical research.

Mission and Vision

Funding Initiatives

LMRF provides research fellowships, typically spanning three years, aimed at biomedical researchers who are within a decade of completing their PhDs. These fellowships are conditional upon the researchers being Australian citizens or having Australian residency for the duration of the grant. The research must be conducted at approved facilities in Queensland, including universities, teaching/research hospitals, and other medical research institutes.

Research Areas

LMRF has supported a wide array of medical research areas, including but not limited to immunology, Parkinson's disease, kidney disease, asthma, schizophrenia, diabetes, skin cancer, cervical and ovarian cancer. Recent efforts have included funding for early diagnostic testing tools for ovarian cancer.

Through partnerships with community organizations and sponsorship initiatives, LMRF continues to raise funds to support ongoing medical research. Notable partnerships include collaborations for fundraising activities, such as the sale of teddy bears by affiliated organizations.
