Holbrook Landcare Group

Holbrook Landcare Group, trading as Holbrook Landcare Network (HLN), is a not-for-profit community organisation based in southern New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1989, it operates primarily in the high rainfall mixed farming zone of southern NSW, with a focus on sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. The organisation is dedicated to promoting environmental care, innovation, and best management practices among local farmers and land managers[1][2][5].

Mission and Objectives

HLN aims to provide information, knowledge, and support to producers and communities to maintain a productive and resilient agricultural sector that upholds a strong environmental ethic. It facilitates improvements and sustainability in environmental and agricultural landscapes within the local region. Core objectives include:

  • Supporting farmers to adopt sustainable and productive agricultural practices.

  • Acting as a conduit between funding bodies, research and development organisations, government agencies, and land managers.

  • Encouraging farmer participation in policy-making at local, state, and national levels.

  • Building regional partnerships to enable coordinated and relevant information delivery.

  • Providing financial incentives for environmental, research, or educational initiatives.

  • Fostering a culture of care for the land and community, alongside innovation and enterprise excellence[1][2][3].

Activities and Projects

Holbrook Landcare Network manages a range of agricultural and natural resource management projects focusing on the Murray Catchment area, especially its eastern parts. It runs extension delivery programs and hosts coordination initiatives such as the Local Landcare Coordinator and the Murray Regional Landcare Coordinator through the Murray Local Landcare Coordinator Initiative Joint Working Group.

HLN also produces valuable resources for revegetation and native vegetation management, including the "South West Slopes Revegetation Guide" and the "Native Vegetation Guide for the Riverina," which are available both in print and as downloadable PDFs. The organisation has developed an interactive online revegetation guide to assist landholders in practical restoration efforts[1][2][4].

Community Engagement and Environmental Stewardship

The network emphasizes stewardship, community involvement, and innovation. It works in partnership with the local community to improve land, water, and biodiversity. HLN also integrates Aboriginal cultural values into its landcare programs, reflecting an inclusive approach to environmental management.

Through its efforts, HLN cultivates a strong, supportive agricultural community committed to long-term farming system sustainability and environmental responsibility[1][4].

Holbrook Landcare Group is registered under the Australian Business Number (ABN) 64092836658RR0001 and operates as a recognized charity focused on ecological and agricultural improvements in the Holbrook region of New South Wales[3].
