Riding for the Disabled Association (NSW) Narrabri Centre

The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) NSW Narrabri Centre is part of a broader network of Riding for the Disabled Association centres across New South Wales and Australia. The broader organization, RDA NSW, was initiated in Australia in 1964 by Mr. and Mrs. Peter McIntyre, who began providing riding therapy for individuals with disabilities[2][4]. While specific details about the Narrabri Centre are not readily available, it operates under the umbrella of RDA NSW, which shares the mission of enhancing the lives of people with disabilities through horse riding and other equestrian activities.

Mission and Activities

RDA centres across Australia aim to provide therapeutic riding, carriage driving, and other equestrian activities to individuals with physical and psychological disabilities. These programs are designed to improve physical strength and balance, enhance emotional well-being, and foster social connections among participants[4].

History of RDA in Australia

The Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia (RDAA) was formally established by agreement among state associations, including New South Wales[3]. Over the years, RDA Australia has introduced several activities, such as carriage driving and vaulting, and has actively participated in national and international competitions[3].

Impact and Achievements

RDA centres in Australia, including those in New South Wales, have played a significant role in promoting inclusion and achieving success in equestrian sports, with several participants going on to compete at national and international levels, including the Paralympics[3][4].

Program Structure and Accreditation

The RDA NSW, and by extension its centres like Narrabri, adhere to standards set by the national body. This includes coaching qualifications that are part of the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme, ensuring high-quality instruction and safety for participants[3].

The RDA organisation across Australia has built strong community networks and partnerships, crucial for its ongoing success and impact on the lives of people with disabilities.
