The Anthony Costa Foundation is an Australian nonprofit family foundation established to support the philanthropic efforts of the Anthony and Elaine Costa and Robert and Rita Costa families. The Foundation is dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities where these families live and work, primarily in the Geelong region.

History

The Foundation was created in 2011 alongside the formation of Costa Asset Management Pty Ltd by brothers Robert and Anthony Costa and their families. It was established as a legacy to their forebears and as a token of appreciation to their community. In 2017, following the sudden passing of Anthony Costa, the Foundation was named in his honor to continue his legacy and reflect his significant contribution to both his family and society.

Mission and Focus Areas

The Anthony Costa Foundation aims to support and enhance community well-being through philanthropy focused on equity in education, improving community health and well-being, and fostering vibrant and fair communities. Its efforts are concentrated on supporting smaller grassroots organizations as well as larger initiatives with longer-term impacts.

Grant Programs

The Foundation administers three types of grants:

• Small Grants: Target smaller grassroots community organizations and new applicants, with a maximum grant amount of $25,000.
• Community Grants: Support stronger and longer-term community impacts, with a minimum funding request of $50,000; these can be multi-year grants.
• Transformational Grants: Offered by invitation only for significant philanthropic impact.

In 2025, the Foundation scheduled three grant rounds: two Community Grants rounds (in June and December) and one Small Grants round (in August), emphasizing ongoing support for eligible community organizations.

Funding Impact

In the 2021 financial year, the Foundation distributed nearly $2.8 million in grants to Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR1) organizations, reflecting its commitment to supporting local communities.

While based in the Geelong region of Australia, the Foundation’s philanthropic reach and community engagement focus on the families’ local areas of residence and work.
