PARTNERING WITH RURAL GUATEMALANS TO IMPROVE HEALTH WELLBEING OUR COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO REDUCING CHRONIC CHILDHOOD MALNUTRITION IN MAYAN COMMUNITIES IS DESIGNED FOR LONGTERM SUSTAINABLE SUCCESS. More than half of all Guatemalans live in poverty and the country has the 6th highest rate of malnutrition in the world. Poverty is even more severe and pervasive in rural indigenous communities affecting 4 out of every 5 people and the prevalence of chronic childhood malnutrition ranges from 50 to 90 percent. Chronic childhood malnutrition causes physical stunting and cognitive impairments that prevent children from reaching their full potential.
