Acting Up Theatre Incorporated

Acting Up Theatre Incorporated is a 501c3 nonprofit organization established with the goal of providing a community theatre environment where families can participate in affordable and safe theatrical activities. The organization's main focus is on educating individuals and families about the ins and outs of theatre production, encapsulated in their motto, "Theatre Instruction Through Production."

Founding and Leadership

Acting Up Theatre was founded by its current President, Davida Greene, and former Vice President, Lisa Kelly. The organization is led by a board of directors that includes Davida Greene as President, Austin Kulp as Treasurer, Holly Kulp as Secretary, Laura Lenz as Music Director, and Rachel Stephens as Executive Administrative Assistant and Resident Composer. The productions are primarily managed by Davida Greene, Laura Lenz, and Rachel Stephens, along with a production team assembled for each show.

Mission and Activities

The mission of Acting Up Theatre is to foster a learning environment where participants can engage with various aspects of theatre production, whether performing on stage or working behind the scenes. The organization strives to make participation accessible by keeping costs affordable, charging $50 per person with a family cap of $100. This fee covers insurance for participants and helps offset costs for specialty makeup, costume pieces, and a production t-shirt. Importantly, no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.

Original Works and Productions

Acting Up Theatre is primarily known for producing original works, including musicals such as Jack and the Beanstalk: The Musical, An Evening of Funny Fairytales: A Musical, Rumplestiltskin: The Musical, Sleeping Beauty: The Musical, Treasure Island: The Musical, The Pied Piper: The Musical, and Around the World in 80 Days: A Musical Adventure. Occasionally, they also perform public domain shows. While their productions may not always have overtly Christian content, the messages and morals often honor and glorify God.

Ticket Pricing and Funding

The organization maintains low ticket prices to ensure that families can easily attend performances, with tickets available online for $5 and at the door for $10, along with inexpensive concessions. All members of the organization are volunteers, and no one receives monetary compensation for their work. As a nonprofit, Acting Up relies on ticket sales and donations to support its operations.
