Fire Safe Council of San Diego County

The Mission of the FSCSDC is to provide education, exchange information, and foster fire prevention and fire safety within the County of San Diego. The Mission of the RCD is to protect, conserve, and restore natural resources through education, information, and technical assistance programs. The RCD has historically worked to benefit and preserve agriculture; however, with increasing urbanization, the RCD/FSCSDC's focus has expanded over the years to include five major goal areas:1. Firewise approach to landscape management: The RCD has managed fire safe programs in partnership with the FSCSDC since 1995 consisting of: the formation and support for community fire safe councils; administration for Community Wildfire Protection Plan process (CWPP); pre-fire management and wildfire protection planning outreach and assistance; fuel reduction and defensible space projects. 2. Watershed approach to resource management: Addressing improved water quality/quantity, soil quality, coastal conservation issues, and habitat management. The water resources in the RCD territory are coastal water, surface water, ground water, imported water, and reclaimed water. 3. Agricultural sustainability: Addressing agricultural sustainability, demonstration gardens, and community gardens.4. Sustainability: Support for sustainability of RCD resources through development of "green" policies and educational outreach. 5. Technical assistance is provided by the RCD/FSCSDC's grant-funded positions for specific projects or through a Memorandum of Understanding with the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Services.
