The Greenwich Art Society is the oldest artist/member-based fine arts organization in Greenwich, CT and lower Fairfield County, CT. Founded in 1912, the Mission of the Greenwich Art Society is to further education and stimulate interest in the visual arts through classes taught by professional artists, exhibitions & lectures. The organization serves to promote the work of area artists and to also provide a further cultural contribution to the community through scholarship & outreach programs to under-served groups and individuals. Founders of the Art Society were members of the Cos Cob Colony of the American Impressionists. Its first president was Edward Clark Potter. Other early members include Leonard Ochtman, Elmer MacRae and John Twatchman. The Society presents two annual juried exhibitions at the Flinn Gallery and Bendheim Gallery in Greenwich, CT. These exhibitions are juried by curators from NYC museums.
