At the confluence of art and environment, Tusen Takk artist-in-residence Brenda Zlamany is painting 45 portraits of northern Michigan residents to explore our evolving relationship with nature along the 45th parallel. This work is part of ‘Climate in America’, the latest chapter in Brenda’s ongoing project, The Itinerant Portraitist, which uses the art of creating portraits to reflect the stories and landscapes that shape our connection to the natural world. We’re happy to share that CRA’s Executive Director, Suzie Knoll, and Program Director, Kimberly Balke, are among the featured subjects in this exciting series! The Dennos Museum Center will host an Artist Talk on Tuesday, September 23 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, and the pop-up exhibition will be featured at the museum through September 25. Did anyone lose a shoe? Thank you to longtime friend of CRA, Wayne Andersen, for sharing this photo of what was recovered from just one cleanup. The Traverse Area Paddling Club, in conjunction with the Wellston Area US Forest Service, recently hosted a Pine River cleanup, 1 among 8 more planned throughout this summer. Caring for our precious rivers takes a village, and the work is never truly done. We are grateful for those who not only support our mission, but go the extra mile to engage a community of dedicated stewards for our natural resources. (fb)
