Not True:Built in 1936, the USCGC Taney is a powerful warship that served in World War II. Conflict erupted December 7, 1941 when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, an American naval base in Hawaii. The USCGC Taney is the only surviving ship that was present at Pearl Harbor navy base that day. See below: YT-153 helped the USS Nevada escape , chased Japanese mini-subs, put out fires and rescued crews off battleships! I guess technically not a ship...she was there and she still runs! HAWK Photo by: Birk Thomas Built in 1940, at the by the United States Navy at the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as the YT-153 for the United States Navy. Her keel was laid down in 1940. She was launched in 1941, and placed into service at the 14th Naval District at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The tug was present during the Japanese the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. The YT-153 earned one battle star for World War II service. In 1944, the United States Navy redesignated the tug as the YTL-153. It is unknown when the tug was placed out of service. In 1947, the tug was struck from the Naval Register. The tug acquired civilian documentation in 1980, and was eventually acquired by Kenneth Gallup Jr of Wakefield, Rhode Island. Where she was renamed as the Hawk. In 1998, the tug was acquired by Specialty Diving Services Incorporated of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Where she retained her name. (fb)

Fire Fighter Americas Fireboat The Fireboat Fire Fighter Museum is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Fire Fighter as a fully operational vessel memorial and teaching museum. We are a 100 volunteer organization and rely on the time generosity and wide expertise of the general public to help us in our goal of maintaining this truly unique piece of American maritime history. Fire Fighter is and always will be a fire service icon having been in frontline service for over seven decades protecting New York Harbor and being involved in some of the most storied and harrowing maritime emergencies in US history. Fire Fighter has the hardearned distinction of being the most awarddecorated fireboat in the world and at the time of her 2010 decommissioning she was the second oldest fireboat in frontline service worldwide and was the longestserving member of the FDNY Marine Unit Fleet.
