The Eaton Rapids Medical Center Foundation is proud to announce Liam Boomer as the recipient of its 2025 scholarship. Liam has been awarded $1,000 to support his continued education in the medical field. Liam is currently pursuing a degree in nursing at Northern Michigan University (NMU), with a minor in Biology. “Healthcare is more than just a profession to me, it is a calling shaped by personal experiences and a commitment to serving others,” said Liam. “I have witnessed firsthand the impact that compassionate nurses have on patients and families. Both of my grandparents passed away from cancer, and my father is currently battling the disease. Throughout these experiences, it was the nurses who provided the most consistent and compassionate care. Their dedication, empathy, and expertise inspired my passion for nursing and my desire to make a difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones.” During his breaks from school, Liam works at ERMC in the Emergency Department as a Patient Care Technician. “This role has strengthened my ability to remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively with patients and medical teams, and provide compassionate care to individuals facing medical crises. Each shift in the ER reaffirms my commitment to nursing and my drive to continue learning and growing in the field,” he said. Liam is actively involved in the Student Nurses Association at NMU and has completed over 30 hours of community service. “I believe healthcare extends beyond direct patient care, it is about advocacy, education, and community support. I am committed to engaging with and uplifting my community, whether through volunteer work, public health initiatives, or mentoring future nursing students,” he added. In recognition of his outstanding care and clinical judgment, Liam received the Clinical Excellence Award from the NMU Nursing Department. His long-term goal is to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). “Becoming a CRNA will allow me to combine my passion for critical care with my commitment to advancing patient safety and comfort during surgical procedures,” said Liam. In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Liam is a member of the NMU Swim and Dive team and participates in the Green Athletics Club, where he works to promote sustainability and reduce waste within the athletic department. Each year, the ERMC Foundation awards a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in a healthcare-related field. The scholarship aims to support local students in their journey toward a career in healthcare. (fb)
