Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness
The Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in the Greater Kansas City area. It functions as the Lead Agency under the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Continuum of Care for the region[4].
Mission and Objectives
The coalition aims to advance collaborative goals to prevent poverty and end homelessness by promoting knowledge sharing, employing creative strategies, and fostering community partnerships. This approach emphasizes a comprehensive and coordinated effort to address homelessness through various services and collaborations within the community[1][3].
Activities and Initiatives
The organization plays a crucial role in coordinating services and partnerships with local agencies. It encompasses a network of member agencies that provide essential services such as:
- Emergency Shelters
- Transitional Housing
- Permanent Housing
- Emergency Rent Services
- Other Supportive Services
These services are designed to support individuals in need, often in collaboration with other community organizations and programs[5].
Role in the Community
The Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness contributes to broader local initiatives, such as Kansas City's strategic plan to end homelessness, known as Zero KC. While not directly responsible for executing Zero KC, which is managed by the Office of Unhoused Solutions (OUS), the coalition aligns with and supports such city-wide efforts through its advocacy and service coordination[2].
Financial Overview
The organization receives financial support from various donors and is expected to adhere to financial reporting standards consistent with nonprofit organizations of its size. It operates with a commitment to transparency and responsible stewardship of resources, which are key to achieving its mission[3].
Overall, the Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness is a vital component of the region's efforts to combat homelessness and promote sustainable housing solutions for all members of the community.

Friends and Partners, Last year, many of you rolled up your sleeves and poured time, energy, and strategy into a comprehensive, collaborative process for the two‑year CoC Program Competition. We planned with intention, worked with urgency, and trusted that HUD would honor its commitment to give us this year to breathe, build, and implement. Now, HUD is signaling a reversal—preparing to issue a new FY2025 NOFO with virtually no notice. While it has not yet been released, this signals a breach of trust and undermines the integrity of last year’s process. We must act now—together. Here's What You Can Do: 1) Reach Out to Congress – Fast. Use this online tool to contact your Senators and Representatives. We need them to pressure THUD leadership to uphold last year’s 2‑year commitment: For Missouri: Senator Josh Hawley (R‑MO) Senator Eric Schmitt (R‑MO) Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D‑MO‑05) For Kansas: Senator Jerry Moran (R‑KS) Senator Roger Marshall (R‑KS) Representative [Your District’s Member] (e.g., Sharice Davids, R‑KS‑03; Jake LaTurner, R‑KS‑02) Ask them to urge HUD to honor the promised two‑year NOFO cycle. Personalize your message using the details from the toolkit. 2) Mobilize Your Network. Send this message and the action link to everyone in your circle—especially agencies receiving CoC funding. Our collective voice matters. 3) Contact HUD Directly. Call HUD CPD at (202) 708-1112 or email answers@hud.gov. Tell them why issuing a new FY2025 NOFO now is unacceptable and how it harms the work being done in your community. This is more than a policy pivot—it’s a disruption to our work, our partnerships, and the trust we've built. If you're reading this, it's your fight too. Let’s flood the zone. https://endhomelessness.org/action/tell-congress-hud-must-keep-its-promises/?fbclid=IwY2xjawLdQvJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHsKPshUTIH4KDat_2aGEa5StSW5DnSrCBr8jZmHeDvsv1-HpDilPYRLuekcT_aem_5xuRjWIZ6Fr118l2YYlyOw (fb)
