Often we assume our kids or teens will know what to do in a tricky situation, but it's hard for kids (and even adults) to know how to respond if they feel uncomfortable. Playing a "game" with different scenarios can help prepare them for peer pressure or uncomfortable situations. The scenarios don't all have to be sexual in nature. You could frame questions around cheating, gossip, mental health issues, or other age-appropriate tough topics. Opening the door to these conversations also lets them know that it's safe to talk to you about these issues. #preventiontiptuesday (fb)

The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast MO Reducing the trauma to child abuse survivors The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri serves children disclosing sexual abuse physical abuse and children who witness violence. Since opening our doors in 2000 our staff and community partners have been the frontline responders to reports of child abuse. Our nonprofit organization exists to protect children heal families and prevent abuse. The primary goal of The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast MOis to ensure that children disclosing abuse are not further victimized by the intervention systems designed to protect them.
