#ThankGodItsFriday We have all been there! 🤣🥳🇺🇬 That buzzy and bouncy feeling when your (nyanya-mbisi) Rolex order is ready and you can almost taste it even before you taste it! A significant part of a cross-cultural learning experience is the introduction to new foods and our student group from Atlas Prep. High School didn't miss on this, they had their moment with a Kabale street-side Rolex. Haha! But, the learnings go deeper than just the mouthwatering meals, students are able to have firsthand account of what food is, how the locals handle it, food as a cultural identity and how the food markets contribute to driving the economy, improving livelihoods and pushing forward communities to thrive. Some of GLI's Public Health Programs are targeted around the food chain such as agriculture (Model Farm on Lake Bunyonyi - Kabale, Uganda), food and nutrition and healthy living (Projects under our Non Communicable Disease Programs). It's easy to see the students fully in for every single bite! Uganda is commomly dubbed the Pearl of Africa. The stunning natural beauty and diverse landscapes always make for a good experience to complement the various tracks tailored for different student groups. We have learnings directed towards Biology and Conservation that are highlighted by activities geared to Uganda's tourism market, the conservation and sustainability efforts, many of our students groups get to visit National Parks - WIldlife Reserves and Sanctuaries. They get to interact with front liners of conservation such as rangers, researchers, biologists, educators and local community members who participate in management and conservation efforts. Students experience firsthand account of how individuals, communities, government and many other stakeholders are doing to contribute to conserving the environment. How human activities bridge with nature, the many facets of tourism as a business and significant source of income for people and the region. While at it - they get to sight wildlife such as giraffes, antelopes, bushpigs, zebras and many others. #ListenThinkAct (fb)
